What’s Actually “Fusion” About Them?
The shape, the hand-pleating, the offering ritual — all unchanged. What’s different is the filling: instead of the traditional coconut-jaggery or khoya stuffing, fusion modaks use flavours borrowed from modern desserts.
- Lotus Biscoff Modaks — creamy caramelised Belgian Biscoff spread with crunchy speculoos crumble folded in.
- Walnut Brownie Modaks — dense, gooey eggless brownie fudge with Californian walnuts, essentially a brownie reshaped into a modak.

Why This Trend Took Off
A few things are driving it: younger family members who grew up on international dessert flavours want that same experience in their festival sweets; families hosting mixed-generation gatherings want one tray that appeals to everyone; and social sharing has made a strikingly photogenic modak tray part of the celebration itself.
Traditional or Fusion? You Don’t Have to Choose
